Let’s get the who’s who and what’s up out of the way

I have been on the Board of Trustees for the Rachel Kohl Community Library for many years. I’m kind of totally a book nerd.

Chadds Ford Township appointed me as the liaison for our municipality. I was the Board Treasurer for several years and have since passed the baton on that jawn.

Now, in the words of the Hair Club for Men guy, “I’m not only the President, I’m also a client.” 🤓 I sign sh*t when I must, and I check out a lot of books because reading is my jam!

Give me the dinner details

The flyer above pretty much covers it. On Tuesday, September 16 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at The Crown in Glen Mills, we’ve got a buffet dinner, cash bar, some great raffle baskets, and someone else doing the cooking and the dishes. No dishes?! No brainer!

Have I convinced you yet? 🙋🏼‍♀️ That’s hard to pass up when you’re supporting a good cause. Maybe that’s just me.

Tickets are $100 each. $55 of the purchase price is tax-deductible, and every dollar of that directly supports the library. We are incredibly grateful for anyone who can squeeze this dinner into their calendar and their budget.

You want to win a raffle basket?

🔮 I read your mind? But really, who doesn’t want to win a raffle basket?

We have ten raffle baskets this year that cater to a variety of interests. We’re putting the finishing touches on the baskets, so the full suite of details is not yet ready for public consumption. 🧺 But here’s the overview of what to expect for basket themes:

• Red wine

• White wine

• Kids’ screen-free quiet time (audiobook reader, various activities)

• Kids’ activity basket

• Golf (round of golf and golf balls)

• Local family fun weekend (gift cards for local activities and restaurants)

• Basket of Bethel (gift cards for Bethel activities and restaurants)

• Dinner around town (gift cards for local restaurants)

• Yoga and wellness

• Spa and salon

I prepared two of the baskets. They are on my kitchen table and ready to go (and you better believe I got both baskets at Goodwill for a whopping total of $5.98). 💪🏼 Raffle hauls are the bomb in secondhand baskets.

Starting in mid-August, the baskets will be on display at the library. You can purchase raffle tickets at the library or the dinner. There will also be an option to buy raffle tickets online. We will choose the winners at the dinner. You do not need to be present at the dinner to win (but isn’t it more fun if you can attend and win in person). 🫶🏼 Just sayin’…

Don’t taxes fund the library?

Yes and no. About 60% of the library’s funding comes from tax dollars, so that means we rely on community donations to fund the remaining 40% of the library operations.

If you love the library, appreciate that libraries have a 500% ROI, or just think having a library is good for the community (research strongly supports this), this dinner is a great way to offer financial support while enjoying a fun night with friends.

Did I see roofing tiles flying off the library recently?

You may have! 😬

Donations fund everyday operations like ordering books, hosting community programs, paying our PECO bills (haven’t those rising rates been fun lately), and compensating our fantastic staff for their hard work and dedication.

Donations also help fund big, one-time purchases like the new roof the library desperately needs. Not exciting stuff, friends, but we’re literally trying to keep a roof over these books.
