As some of you know, I'm on the Rachel Kohl Community Library Board of Trustees. Remember when I became too invested in the township building ceiling while waiting for the National Library Week proclamation? 🫠

This week, I have a small favor to ask on behalf of the library. Would you consider making a small donation ($10, maybe?) to help us reach our fundraising goal in the Delco Gives event today and tomorrow (May 8 -9)?

Delco Gives is a two-day community-wide event to raise funds for and celebrate nonprofits' hard work in Delaware County. The event seeks to garner unique donations, regardless of size. When our Rachel Kohl community makes unique donations, we may earn large corporate donations corresponding to unique donors.

We would greatly appreciate your small donation if you could support the library. Also, note that there is a big prize for non-profits that get unique donations between 6:00 and 7:00 PM on May 9th, so if you could donate at that time, that would be amazing! But really, anything is the bomb dot com. 💣

Local Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Skip the generic online gift guides and grab something special from a local business for the moms in your life. There are many environmental and economic reasons to support local businesses over large corporations! Here are a few quick ideas to consider.

For the last-minute procrastinators, I’ve got you. Many of the ideas below are available online or can be picked up at the last minute (the beauty of local🥳).

• You can’t go wrong with something from Renegade Flower Farm. They offer seasonal bouquet subscriptions and host events like floral design, Picnic and You Pick, Sip and Snip, and more!

• A fun date at Chadds Ford Coffee House, Oso Sweet Bakery Cafe, or Spread Bagelry. I’m not a coffee drinker, but I heard the coffee at CFCH is killer. I can confirm from experience that the Oso Sweet scones and hot chocolate are to-die-for. And the salted egg bagels at Spread are amazing!

• I’m obsessed with the bags, wallets, and other handmade leather goods from Arden + James. You can find them in the Barn Shops at Chadds Ford or online. I have an adorable business card wallet (that could double as a credit card/cash wallet) from A+J that has lasted me a long time.

• Check out this flower-arranging class at Rachel Kohl Library at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday! You can do it with the special mom in your life or attend and bring the arrangement to her as a gift.

• Mother’s Day Brunch, but local. Sometimes I need a reminder about cool spots I overlook. Here are a few fun spots: White Dog Cafe, Avenue Kitchen, Testa Rossa, Chadds Ford Tavern, The Gables, Nudy’s, Terrain Cafe, Morningside Brunch Cafe, and Osteria Ama. What did I miss? • Find a special book or cool vintage piece at Gather Vintage Market in Old Ridge Village Shoppes.

• You can’t go wrong with a membership to Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, or Mt. Cuba Center. 🌸

• No mom will turn down self-care, right? How about a hair appointment or nail treatment at Tribe x Husk? Their space is brilliant and bright, and their services are 💯.

• Is she a wine drinker? Consider a wine membership from a local winery like Chadds Ford Winery or Penns Wood Winery. Penns Wood has a special Mother’s Day Yoga at the Winery event and a Mother’s Day market. That could be super fun if it’s up her alley.

Saturday BINGO night to support Unionville Crew

Recently, I found this Etsy account from someone in our community. The creator uses 3D printing to design and make cool organizational tools and other gadgets. Check it out and support a local business next time you need to organize your office or clean up that space in the kitchen where all your devices pile up. That electronic mess isn’t just me, is it? 😬
